Producing a scatterplot in SPSS
A scatterplot will provide a visual display of how the data in two variables are related.
CLICK on Graphs, Legacy Dialogs, Scatter/Dot
Select Simple Scatter and CLICK on Define.
Move one_variable into theX Axis box and the other_variable into theY-Axis box.
CLICK on OK.
The scatterplot should then appear in the SPSS Output window.

DOUBLE-CLICK on the scatterplot.
It should appear in its own Chart Editor window.

To get rid of the full border and the grey background (depending on version of SPSS), do the following:
CLICK on the main body of the scatterplot to select it. (It should be highlighted by a yellow border.)
CLICK on the Fill & Border tab in the Properties window.
CLICK in the Fill box and select Transparent (top-right white box with diagonal red line).
CLICK in the Border box and select Transparent (top-right white box with diagonal red line).
CLICK on the Apply button.
To get rid of the grid lines (depending on version of SPSS), do the following:
CLICK on grid line symbol in the top menu to remove.
To make the dots appear solid in the scatterplot, do the following:
CLICK on any one of the dots in the scatterplot to select all of them. (All dots should be highlighted by a yellow border.)
CLICK on the Marker tab in the Properties window.
CLICK in the Fill box and select Black (top-left box).
CLICK on the Apply button.
Simply exit the Chart Editor window to view your changes in the SPSS Output window.
