Use these questions and notes as a guide to complete your assignment requirements.
1. What K-12 grade level are you designing the curriculum for? Choose the grade-level of the students: elementary, middle-school, and high school students.
2. Why did you choose this level? Explain your specific choice. 3. Is the content adjusted to the grade level? The level of content for your problem-centered
curriculum should be adjusted based on the different grade levels. 4. What are the demographics of your student body?
• If you are currently teaching, describe the demographic make-up of your students. Discuss their performance scores as they pertain to the state standards.
• If you are not teaching, then select a local school and research some information about the school.
5. What do you think students already know about the topic? Based on your chosen grade level, what kind of prior knowledge can you assume?

1. Describe the topic you will use to develop a problem-based curriculum.
The topic chosen for the problem-based curriculum is: Mental Health Awareness among High School Students. By including this curriculum, this is to address the emerging mental health issues such as stress due to academic performance pressure, social isolation due to social affects, and the effects of COVID 19 impacts.

The curriculum is being developed for a suburban k-12 school district in Kansas. This district is designed for students who belong to different ethnicity, half of them are Hispanic, a quarter of them is black, and the rest 45% is white. The district has experienced increased concern in learner’s distress with the signs being seen in poor performance, increased truancy and propulsion for counseling services due to student’s anxiety, depression and stress.

6. Describe possible barriers that could delay the implementation of this curriculum.
Some of the challenges that may hinder the implementation of this curriculum are lack of funds in the provision of mental health programs, attitude of some parents or members of the society that may not support the teaching of this curriculum or lack of professional workers in the school to offer quality interventions. There might also be other timetable issues within the school classroom curriculum that could slow down the implementation of this new curriculum.
